Dr. Nar Bahadur Bista, Principal and Chairman of Uniglobe College, believes Nepal’s higher education is entering a confident new phase. In this interview, he argues that technology, artificial intelligence, improved curricula, skilled faculty, and market-driven programs have strengthened Nepali colleges. He says the post-COVID trend of students leaving the country has declined because institutions are offering quality, infrastructure, and career support. With more than 3,200 graduates, Uniglobe College has focused on banking, finance, IT, entre...
For more than two decades, I have watched Nepal’s education system change from the classroom, from the university, and from the management table of academic institutions. I began teaching in 2048 B.S., served at the university for 23 years, and later continued my journey through the KMC Education Network and Himalaya College of Engineering. This long experience has convinced me of one clear truth: Nepal’s education is not weak, but it urgently needs timely reform, stronger motivation, and a national policy to protect students from misdirected m...
Nepal’s higher education sector is standing at a critical turning point. For many years, our academic system has been criticized for delay, outdated curriculum, weak connection with industry, and limited employment pathways for graduates. Yet, in recent times, I have begun to see encouraging signs. Examinations are becoming more timely, results are being published regularly, universities are discussing an integrated academic calendar, and there is a policy-level intention to refine the syllabus. These may appear to be administrative improvement...
For Nepal’s young generation, the decision after Plus Two is no longer simply a question of choosing a college; it has become a question of choosing a future. Many students and parents believe that foreign education offers better quality, income and security. I understand that attraction. Yet, from my 25 years in education, especially my long association with bachelor’s and master’s level programs under Pokhara University, I firmly believe that students should complete at least their bachelor’s degree in Nepal before going abroad.
College life is one of the most important and memorable phases in a student’s life. It is not only a time for academic learning but also a period of self-discovery, confidence-building, and personal growth. For me, my +2 journey became a turning point that helped me understand life, education, friendship, and responsibility in a deeper way.
As Campus Chief of Kailashkut Multiple Campus, Narayan Prasad Paudel believes that a community campus must move forward through collective ownership, technological adaptation, practical education and social responsibility. The campus has a long history, but he believes that history alone is not enough; it must be transformed according to the demands of the 21st century. He is committed to strengthening institutional stability, expanding student access, respecting teachers, improving quality and connecting education with employment. Kailashkut i...
Kathmandu: The government has approved the Foreign Educational Programme (Operation and Regulation) Rules, 2083 with the objective of improving the quality of colleges operating under foreign affiliation and making their regulation more effective. The rules, prepared by the Ministry of Education and Sports, were approved by the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. With the approval of the new rules, stricter standards will now be enforced for colleges in Nepal that are running academic programmes in affiliation with foreign universities.
Nepal’s higher education stands at a decisive moment. As Principal of Ritz College of Engineering and Management, and as someone who has worked in higher education for a long time, I believe the country has strong possibilities, but those possibilities will become meaningful only if we link education with national priorities, industry needs and students’ future careers. The overall condition of education in Nepal is not weak. It has a foundation, committed institutions and growing public awareness. However, it must now be refined, updated and m...
As I reflect on the present condition of higher education in Nepal, especially management education, I feel that our system stands at a serious turning point. I have spent nearly four decades in teaching, first at Tribhuvan University and later, after retirement, at Kathmandu University’s Nepal College of Management. I have also worked with the University Grants Commission. Nepal has capable institutions and committed teachers, but unless we reform curriculum, teaching pedagogy, monitoring, fee structures and employment linkages seriously, the...
Building an Institution with Purpose As Principal of the National Institute of Engineering and Technology, I see higher education as a responsibility to prepare young people for national service and global competition. NIET was established in 2005 with a clear academic purpose. We began with B.E. in Biomedical Engineering, a field that was new, demanding and deeply connected with Nepal’s healthcare needs. Today, our 18th batch has already graduated, our 21st batch is studying, and the 22nd batch is ready for admission. This journey proves that...
