Kathmandu — The government has appointed registrars to six universities, including Tribhuvan University (TU), along with a new Rector at TU.

Prime Minister and Chancellor of the universities Balendra Shah made the appointments based on recommendations from the respective university vice-chancellors.

Highlights

• Prof. Dr. Anjana Maharjan Singh has been appointed Rector of Tribhuvan University, while Prof. Rabindra Shivakoti has been named Registrar.
• Registrars: Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa, Prof. Dr. Nirmala Jamakattel, Prof. Dr. Tara Datta Bhatta, Dr. Sudip Thakuri and Jeevan Kafle have also been appointed at Purbanchal, Pokhara, Sudurpaschim, Mid-Western and Rajarshi Janak universities respectively.
• The newly appointed officials took their oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education and Sports.

According to the appointments, Prof. Dr. Anjana Maharjan Singh has been appointed Rector of Tribhuvan University, while Prof. Rabindra Shivakoti has been appointed Registrar.

Shivakoti is a professor at TU's Faculty of Education, while Singh is a professor at the Faculty of Science.

Similarly, Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa has been appointed Registrar of Purbanchal University, Prof. Dr. Nirmala Jamarkattel as Registrar of Pokhara University, and Prof. Dr. Taradatta Bhatta as Registrar of Sudurpaschim University.

Likewise, Associate Professor Dr. Sudip Thakuri has been appointed Registrar of Mid-Western University, while Dr. Jeevan Kafle has been appointed Registrar of Rajarshi Janak University.

The newly appointed Rector and registrars took their oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education and Sports on the same day.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony, Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel instructed the newly appointed officials to work through teamwork and effective coordination to promote university reform and comprehensive development.

Minister Pokharel emphasized the need for strong cooperation among vice-chancellors, registrars and other university officials to advance higher education reform.

She also stressed that all concerned stakeholders must work responsibly to transform universities into centres of excellence and research-oriented institutions. She assured that the ministry would provide the necessary facilitation and support.

Education Ministry Secretary Chudamani Paudel expressed confidence that the newly appointed officials would play an important role in transforming universities and making their work more results-oriented.

Minister Pokharel's adviser Shailendra Jha urged the newly appointed officials to take an active role in improving academic quality, examination systems and institutional capacity.

Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa said universities should focus on producing quality human resources while strengthening effective coordination among institutions.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Pokhara University Registrar Prof. Dr. Nirmala Jamarkattel pledged to effectively discharge the responsibilities entrusted to her.

Vice-chancellors from various universities and senior officials from the ministry were present at the ceremony.
