PABSON Convention: A Colloquium for Unity and Integrity

Jeetendra Ghimire

The Private Boarding Schools’ Organization, Nepal (PABSON) is going to witness its 14th National Convetion on 28th-29th Falgun, 2075 at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi, Kathmandu where more than 2000 PABSON associate schools representatives show their significant gesture.
The PABSON is the largest organization, which has been spread in all provinces, districts and local levels, and is recognized in Nepal and abroad as one of the influential organizations working in Nepal. Although the popularity, recognition and benchmarks of the PABSON are increasing in the course of time, people have raised the issue of its leadership, role and future.
A multitude of people of first generation led the PABSON and showed multiple gateways to their future generation for the assurance of exceptional education through the string of private institutions since the beginning of PABSON till the 11th Convention. From the 12th National Convention, PABSON has been administered under the leadership of the second generation.
Some former leaders of the PABSON believe that if PABSON was not established, most private schools would have been closed during the a decade-long Maoist Insurgency between 2052 BS- 2062 BS. The PABSON stood as a backbone and faced the problems and didn’t stagger losing its track in the process of overcoming insurmountable difficulties. Therefore, PABSON always withstands adversities and embarks on the assurance of rewarding education impartation not only in private institutions but also in public schools.
Despite a consensusual pursuit for nominating the leaders of PABSON for the next tenure, the scenario has become controversial since two candidates— Tikaram Puri and DK Dhungana— have shown their interest in the presidential post. Both of them wish that their candidacy should be determined through election. There is a tenuous hope that either one of them is going to withdraw the nomination.
However, the academic situation in Nepal is not normal now since most private insititions have been terrorized by rampant educational policies of the government, which have created menaces for smooth running of the private institutions in Nepal. Most school founders opine that such controversial acts and policies not only exacerbate the status of private institutions but also they create insurmountable barriers to the government to exonerate of social setbacks and public backlash. However, the government will have to build strong tie-ups with the private investors in order to accomplish its campaign: Compulsory Education and Free Education for all.
