Madhesh University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Bahadur Shakya honoured for educational leadership

Kathmandu, August 23: HISSAN Bagmati Province has honoured Madhesh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Deepak Bahadur Shakya for his contribution to educational leadership, academic quality and student development.

Dr Shakya received the honour during the closing ceremony of HISSAN Bagmati Model United Nations 2026. The three-day programme was held from August 21 to 23.

HISSAN Bagmati presented him with a ceremonial shawl, a certificate of appreciation and a token of honour.

The certificate recognised Dr Shakya's work in academic leadership, educational innovation and quality improvement. It also acknowledged his support for programmes that help young people develop leadership, diplomatic understanding and critical thinking.

HISSAN Bagmati Province said his presence and participation added academic value to the MUN programme and supported its purpose of preparing students for international forums.

Students from different schools and colleges took part in the event as representatives of various countries. They debated international issues, negotiated with other delegates and participated in diplomatic exercises.

The programme gave students an opportunity to practise public speaking, research, negotiation and decision making. Organisers said such activities help students understand global affairs while learning to listen to different viewpoints and present their arguments responsibly.

The certificate of appreciation was signed by HISSAN Bagmati Province President Raj Kumar Acharya and Vice-President Ananda Kumar Yadav. It expressed the organisation's respect and gratitude to Dr Shakya and wished him continued success in his academic leadership.

HISSAN Bagmati Province said it would continue working with academic leaders and educational institutions to organise programmes that support students' intellectual and personal development.

The organisation also plans to continue creative learning activities based on international practices. Such programmes, it said, allow students to apply classroom knowledge through discussion, negotiation and leadership exercises.
