Kathmandu, September 11 — The Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON) has contributed Rs 120 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts for communities affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods.

The contribution was formally handed over through the Finance Minister at Singha Durbar on Friday. PABSON said the financial assistance was mobilized in response to the extensive loss of lives and property caused by the floods, which have also severely affected students, parents and educational institutions in several areas.

According to the organization, the contribution is intended to strengthen the government’s ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts while helping address the immediate needs of flood-affected communities.

The fund was handed over in the presence of PABSON President Krishna Adhikari, Chief Advisor D.K. Dhungana, Former President Tika Ram Puri, Co-President Gopal Acharya, General Secretary R.B. Katuwal, Bagmati Province President Murari Prasad Sanjel, Kathmandu District President Navaraj Bhatta, and other officials and representatives of the organization.

Kathmandu Chapter Contributes Rs 40 Million

Of the total Rs 120 million mobilized through PABSON’s central mechanism, its Kathmandu District chapter alone contributed Rs 40 million.

The amount was collected from private and boarding schools affiliated with PABSON Kathmandu and transferred to the central disaster relief initiative. The contribution will form part of the broader assistance being mobilized for flood-affected citizens, students and their families.

The Bhotekoshi floods have disrupted normal life in affected areas and caused damage to school buildings, educational materials and other infrastructure. PABSON said immediate assistance is essential not only for rescue and relief operations but also for minimizing disruption to education and helping affected students and families recover from the disaster.

Education Recovery a Key Priority

PABSON President Krishna Adhikari said supporting the government’s rescue and relief operations during a major disaster is also part of the private sector’s social responsibility.

He said PABSON had therefore decided to make an institutional contribution to assist affected citizens and students at a time when coordinated support from different sectors is particularly important.

PABSON said ensuring continuity of education for affected students, restoring damaged schools and providing relief to vulnerable families should remain among the immediate priorities in the aftermath of the disaster.

The organization stressed that the impact of the floods extends beyond the immediate destruction of homes and infrastructure. Damage to schools and educational resources could have longer-term consequences for children unless restoration and educational support measures are implemented promptly.

Strengthening Public-Private Cooperation in Disaster Response

PABSON has previously mobilized assistance for relief and rehabilitation during different disasters across the country. The latest Rs 120 million contribution, according to the organization, reflects its commitment to working alongside the government to make search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts more effective in Bhotekoshi flood-affected areas.

The disaster has also drawn increased attention to the condition of schools, students and families in affected communities. Alongside immediate humanitarian assistance, restoring educational facilities and enabling students to resume their studies are expected to become important components of the recovery process.

As one of Nepal’s major organizations representing the private education sector, PABSON’s Rs 120 million contribution—including Rs 40 million mobilized by its Kathmandu District chapter—underscores the role of educational institutions and the wider private sector in supporting national disaster-response efforts.

The initiative is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the government and the private education sector as Nepal moves from emergency rescue and relief operations toward rehabilitation and recovery in flood-affected communities.
