Texas Doesn't Teach Textbooks; Texas Teaches Life

Shyam Sundar Shrestha, Principal of Texas International College, presents Texas as a dynamic learning network from Montessori to master’s level, serving thousands of students with committed teachers and staff. His central message is that education must create smart, skilled and value driven human beings, not merely high GPA holders. Texas’ guiding motto is to balance material prosperity with spiritual awareness, encouraging students to believe in themselves, respect humanity and serve society. The interview discusses choosing the right Plus Two college, subject selection, practical exposure, digital learning, leadership training, parental guidance and Texas’ mission to turn students’ dreams into reality through practical, value-oriented, globally relevant education.

College Readers: What makes the philosophy of Texas different from many other institutions?

Shrestha: Texas believes that education must balance the material world and the spiritual world. Students need knowledge, skills, technology and professional success, but they also need compassion, kindness, self-discipline and respect for humanity. We encourage every learner to have strong faith in themselves and move toward the summit of success. At the same time, we remind them to remain humble, helpful and socially responsible. A person may become prosperous, but without values, that prosperity is incomplete. Our philosophy is to produce successful as well as good human beings.

College Readers: SEE graduates often feel confused while choosing a Plus Two institution. What should they consider first?

Shrestha: The first question students must ask is: “What do I want to become in life?” One may dream of becoming an entrepreneur, doctor, engineer, advocate, writer, scientist or teacher. After identifying that dream, students should discuss it with parents, teachers, seniors and well-wishers. Once the dream is clear, they should select a college that can support that dream. A good Plus Two institution should have a strong academic environment, experienced faculty, proven results, practical exposure, discipline and a caring support system. Students should never let their dreams down, but they must choose the right environment to transform dreams into reality.

College Readers: How should students choose the right subject or faculty after SEE?

Shrestha: Every child is created with individual capacity, ability and purpose. It is not necessary to compare oneself with friends. Students may have role models, but they should walk according to their own interest and pace. Those interested in business and entrepreneurship may choose Management. Those who want to become doctors, engineers or scientists may select Science. Students who love writing, teaching, social issues or communication may choose Humanities. Those dreaming of becoming advocates or judges may study Law. However, interest should be verified through discussion with parents, teachers and seniors. Such verification builds confidence and reduces confusion.

College Readers: Why should students choose Texas International College for Plus Two education?

Shrestha: Texas gives priority to real-life connection, exposure, practical education and student-centric pedagogy. We do not want students to memorize only textbooks; we want them to connect classroom learning with life. Our classrooms, library, laboratories and learning systems are digitalized. We are especially known for IT-based learning. Along with regular curriculum, students receive exposure to areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, public speaking, leadership training and personality grooming. We organize field visits, practical sessions, presentations and activity-based learning. Our experienced faculty and consistent results make Texas a suitable platform for ambitious Plus Two students.

College Readers: In your view, what is quality education? Is it only about marks?

Shrestha: Marks are important, and achieving an outstanding GPA is always appreciable. But marks alone do not define life. This is the era of smart people. A student must have knowledge, skills, communication ability, confidence, creativity and human values. A 4.0 GPA can open doors, but smartness, discipline and character help students stay successful after entering those doors. Quality education should prepare learners to stand out in society, nation and the world. It should help them think out of the box, solve problems and contribute meaningfully. Therefore, GPA is only one parameter; life requires many other strengths.

College Readers: How can parents and students believe that Texas produces smart students?

Shrestha: Evidence comes from student performance and real achievements. Texas has earned trust from academic bodies and different national and international organizations. Our students have received notable recognition for innovation. One student received around fifteen lakh rupees in seed money from the University Grants Commission for developing a creative software project related to making statues appear lively and interactive. Our students have also earned international honors, and many alumni are working in respected universities, companies and organizations in Nepal and abroad. These achievements show that Texas is not only teaching subjects; it is preparing capable human resources.

College Readers: What final message would you like to give to SEE graduates and their parents?

Shrestha: My message to students is simple: develop a positive mindset, believe in yourself and choose your path wisely. Whatever faculty you select, your attitude, discipline and effort will determine your success. Do not study only for name and fame; do good deeds that allow your contribution to live beyond your lifetime. To parents, I request: please do not impose your own interest on your children. Guide them, listen to them and help them choose subjects according to their ability and passion. When home and college work together, every student can grow, succeed and serve society with dignity.
