Nepal Government Bans Bridge Courses for Admission Preparation

Kathmandu — The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced a nationwide ban on bridge courses and entrance preparation classes conducted for school and higher education admissions.

According to an official press release issued by the ministry, the decision was approved under the leadership of Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel and will come into effect from Baisakh 1, 2082. The directive applies to all institutions running entrance preparation (bridge courses) programs targeting students seeking admission into various academic levels.

The ministry stated that such programs have been contributing to inequality in access to education, while also placing unnecessary financial burdens on students and their families. Officials emphasized that the commercialization of entrance preparation has negatively affected the fairness of the education system.

The press statement further instructs all concerned institutions to immediately discontinue these programs within the stipulated deadline. District Administration Offices across the country have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring compliance with the directive.

Authorities have also warned that strict legal action will be taken against institutions found violating the decision.

The move is expected to promote a more equitable education system by reducing financial barriers and ensuring equal opportunities for all students across Nepal.
