Madhesh University Expands Academic Reach as Research Profile Gains International Recognition

New academic programs, growing publication output, international research partnerships and open admissions position the university as an emerging centre of higher education

Birgunj — Madhesh University is steadily strengthening its position in Nepal’s higher education landscape through the expansion of academic programs, increased research activity and growing international collaboration.

With a policy focused on research, innovation and practical education, the university has sought to establish itself as a reliable academic institution capable of producing skilled professionals in management, law, public administration and health-system leadership.

The university currently offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Public Administration and Management (BPAM), Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (BALLB), and Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs.

These courses are designed to prepare graduates for professional responsibilities in business management, governance, legal practice, public institutions and policy-related fields.

The university is also preparing to introduce an LLB program and a Master in Health System and Leadership. The new offerings are expected to broaden its academic portfolio and respond to the growing demand for qualified professionals in law, healthcare management and institutional leadership.

University officials say the expansion reflects an effort to develop programs that are academically relevant, professionally oriented and responsive to Nepal’s changing social and economic needs.

Research Becomes a Major Institutional Priority

Alongside its teaching programs, Madhesh University has placed increasing emphasis on research and scholarly publication.

According to information provided by the university, its faculty and researchers have produced more than 34 peer-reviewed publications. The research output includes one publication in a Q1-ranked journal, three in Q3 journals and two in Q4 journals. Four patent publications have also been completed.

The publication of research in internationally classified journals indicates the university’s attempt to build a stronger culture of scholarly inquiry and contribute to knowledge production beyond the classroom.

The patent publications are also viewed as an encouraging sign of the university’s interest in innovation, applied research and the development of original academic work.

Faculty participation, student engagement and research-oriented institutional policies have contributed to this progress. The university expects its research activities to grow further as new academic programs, partnerships and collaborative projects are introduced.

University Listed in AD Scientific Ranking 2026

Madhesh University has also recorded a presence in the AD Scientific Index Ranking 2026.

According to the ranking cited by the university, it stands seventh among institutions in Nepal, with a global rank of 6,299 and an Asia rank of 2,831.

The ranking is regarded by the university as an indication of its increasing scientific visibility and research presence. Although institutional rankings are only one measure of academic performance, the recognition has provided momentum to its efforts to enhance publication quality, research leadership and international engagement.

The university administration believes that continued investment in research, stronger academic mentoring and collaboration with scholars from Nepal and abroad will help improve its standing in the coming years.

International Recognition for Research Leadership

Madhesh University’s research progress has also received international attention.

Senior Professor Dr. Lloyd Zulu, President and Chancellor of World Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia, has praised the university’s research direction and acknowledged the leadership of Dean Dr. Anjay Kumar Mishra.

Dr. Zulu noted that the university’s recent progress under Dr. Mishra’s research leadership had taken a positive direction and could serve as an encouraging example for other higher education institutions.

Recognising Dr. Mishra’s scholarly achievements, research contribution and capacity for international academic cooperation, World Christian University appointed him as an adjunct professor.

The appointment has transformed an existing individual research partnership into a formal institutional relationship.

According to university sources, Prof. Dr. Zulu and Dr. Mishra had previously collaborated on research projects in their personal academic capacities. The new arrangement is expected to expand that cooperation through the two universities and create opportunities for structured academic exchange.

Both sides have agreed to continue joint research activities and pursue future projects through institutional mechanisms.

The partnership is expected to support collaborative research, joint publications, academic interaction and the exchange of expertise between scholars associated with the two universities.

Madhesh University has described the appointment as an important step in expanding its academic and research networks. It also reflects international recognition of Dr. Mishra’s contribution to research, institutional development and scholarly collaboration.

University officials believe that the partnership could lead to new research projects, co-authored publications, academic seminars and other collaborative initiatives.

From Individual Collaboration to Institutional Partnership

The formalisation of the relationship with World Christian University represents a broader strategy by Madhesh University to establish partnerships with international academic institutions.

Such cooperation can help emerging universities strengthen research standards, expose faculty members and students to global academic practices, and create opportunities for comparative and interdisciplinary study.

The university expects institutional partnerships to complement its domestic priorities by enabling researchers to work on subjects of shared regional and international importance.

The administration has also expressed confidence that greater international engagement will enhance academic credibility, support faculty development and create new platforms for knowledge exchange.

Admissions Open Across Existing Programs

While expanding its research and international profile, Madhesh University has given equal priority to student admissions.

Admissions are currently open for the academic programs being offered by the university. Prospective students have been encouraged to apply within the prescribed period and take advantage of education that combines academic knowledge, professional preparation and research exposure.

The university aims to attract students seeking affordable and career-oriented higher education within Nepal.

Its management, law and public administration programs are intended to provide both theoretical foundations and practical understanding. The proposed health-system leadership program is expected to address the need for professionals capable of managing complex health institutions and public-health systems.

The university believes that its developing research culture will also provide students with opportunities to participate in academic inquiry, project-based learning and innovation.

Building a Distinctive Academic Identity

As one of Nepal’s newer universities, Madhesh University faces the challenge of developing a distinctive academic identity while competing with established institutions at home and universities abroad.

Its current strategy appears to centre on three major priorities: expanding professionally relevant academic programs, strengthening research output and building national and international partnerships.

The university’s progress in publications, patent-related work, academic ranking and research collaboration has given it a foundation for further growth.

However, sustaining that momentum will require consistent academic leadership, qualified faculty members, adequate research funding, effective infrastructure and dependable student services.

The administration has expressed its commitment to maintaining academic quality as enrolment and program offerings increase.

It also expects the planned introduction of new courses to make the institution more attractive to students from Madhesh Province and other parts of Nepal.

With admissions open, research activity expanding and international cooperation taking shape, Madhesh University is positioning itself as an emerging destination for students seeking quality, research-oriented and professionally relevant higher education.

University officials remain optimistic that its growing academic portfolio and research achievements will help it become a preferred choice for a larger number of students in the years ahead.
