KATHMANDU, July 31 — Kathmandu District Committee of Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools’ Association Nepal (HISSAN) has honoured 94 member institutions and 116 outstanding students for their exceptional performance in the Grade 12 examinations of 2082 BS.

The students and institutions were recognised during the School Leaving Certificate Examinations Felicitation Programme–2083, held on Friday at Sagarmatha Hall of Nepal Police Club in Bhrikutimandap. The ceremony brought together principals, teachers, parents, education officials, institutional representatives and prominent figures from Nepal’s education sector.

HISSAN Kathmandu President Gopiraj Parajuli chaired the programme, while Secretary Krishna Gautam conducted the proceedings. Former state minister and Coordinator of the HISSAN Directors’ Council Umesh Shrestha attended as the chief guest.

National Examinations Board Member-Secretary Junga Bahadur Aryal; Academic and Research Council Coordinator Dr Madhav Baral; educationist Dr Shivadatta Gyawali; HISSAN Central President Yuvraj Sharma; Kathmandu Education Development and Coordination Unit Chief Suresh Kumar Joshi; and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Department Chief Namaraj Dhakal attended as special guests.

Other participants included HISSAN Senior Vice-President Prof Dr Swagat Shrestha; Vice-Presidents Rishi Tiwari, Rajendra Adhikari, Narendra Bahadur Adhikari, Bishnu Raj Paudel, Birendra Jayana and RB Adhikari; HISSAN Central General Secretary Ram Hari Silwal; Secretaries Bhawani Prasad Paudel and Jiban Lama Gole; Treasurer Shiva Adhikari; HISSAN Kathmandu Chief Adviser Jessica Chemjong; HISSAN Bagmati Province President Raj Kumar Acharya; and other members of the central committee.

Presidents and representatives of HISSAN committees from Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the municipalities of Tarakeshwar, Chandragiri, Nagarjun, Kirtipur, Kageshwori Manohara, Gokarneshwor and Tokha also attended the ceremony.

Recognition That Inspires Achievement

HISSAN Kathmandu Senior Vice-President Rishi Neupane delivered the welcome address at the beginning of the programme. A welcome dance was also performed before the formal felicitation sessions commenced.

Explaining the purpose of the event, President Parajuli said that recognising outstanding students and institutions would bring renewed energy and motivation to the education sector. He added that public recognition not only rewards dedication and hard work but also encourages other students to set higher academic goals.

Academic recognition does more than celebrate success—it inspires an entire generation of students to aim higher.

Certificates, letters of appreciation and felicitation awards were presented to the honoured students and institutions in several rounds. HISSAN officials, the National Examinations Board member-secretary, the chief guest and other distinguished guests jointly presented the awards.

According to the organisers, the programme was designed to recognise both individual academic excellence and the sustained institutional efforts that contribute to strong examination results. The presence of parents, principals and teachers reflected the collective role they play in supporting students’ academic journeys.

Students Urged to Prepare for Global Competition

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Umesh Shrestha congratulated the students on their achievements and urged them to prepare for competition that now extends far beyond Nepal’s borders.

He said that while academic grades remain important, students must also develop practical skills, discipline, confidence, creativity and leadership abilities to succeed in an increasingly competitive and rapidly changing world.

Shrestha stressed the need for stronger cooperation between private and community-based educational institutions. He also called for increased investment in quality education, arguing that the country’s future depends on institutions capable of equipping students with knowledge, values and skills relevant to changing national and international demands.

Grades may open doors, but skills, discipline and leadership determine how far students can progress.

HISSAN Central President Yuvraj Sharma said private educational institutions had made a significant contribution to Nepal’s educational development. He added that HISSAN remained committed to making teaching and learning more student-centred, effective and responsive to contemporary needs.

Sharma said educational institutions must move beyond examination-oriented teaching and create learning environments that help students think critically, communicate clearly, solve problems and apply their knowledge in practical situations.

He also underlined the importance of improving educational standards while maintaining accessibility, responsibility and institutional accountability.

HISSAN Central General Secretary Ram Hari Silwal said recognition programmes of this nature raise the morale of high-performing students while motivating others to strive for better results.

He said HISSAN would continue advancing its campaign for quality education and academic excellence through institutional cooperation, professional development, educational innovation and student-focused initiatives.

HISSAN Bagmati Province President Raj Kumar Acharya said meaningful cooperation among schools, teachers, parents and students forms the foundation of quality education.

He maintained that academic success should be viewed as the result of collective responsibility rather than the achievement of students alone. According to him, effective collaboration among all educational stakeholders is essential to creating a supportive and productive learning environment.

Acharya said such programmes would continue in a more effective, inclusive and organised manner in the future. He noted that honouring students and institutions helps build a culture of excellence while reinforcing the importance of discipline, commitment, teamwork and shared responsibility.

Founders Receive Historic Recognition

A major feature of the ceremony was the special recognition of HISSAN’s founders. Umesh Shrestha and Dr Madhav Baral were presented with Certificates of Honour and Felicitation Awards in recognition of their contributions to the establishment, development and institutional growth of HISSAN.

Late Dr Baburam Pokharel and late Manorama Rana were posthumously honoured with Certificates of Posthumous Honour and Felicitation Awards.

The recognition was described as a historic first for HISSAN, marking the organisation’s formal tribute to the founders whose vision, leadership and commitment helped shape its institutional journey.

For the first time in its history, HISSAN formally honoured the pioneers whose vision laid the organisation’s foundation.

According to the organisers, the programme was also the first HISSAN event to combine the felicitation of its founders with awards for the highest-GPA Grade 12 graduates and their respective institutions.

The initiative symbolically connected HISSAN’s institutional history with the achievements of a new generation of students, recognising both the pioneers who built the organisation and the learners who represent its future.

The ceremony reflected HISSAN Kathmandu’s growing emphasis on recognising academic excellence at both student and institutional levels. By bringing together education leaders, government officials, teachers, parents and families, the organisation sought to reinforce the message that quality education requires sustained cooperation and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.

The event concluded with a renewed call to strengthen educational quality, promote practical skills alongside academic learning and prepare Nepali students to compete successfully at both national and international levels.

The organisers said the felicitation programme would continue as an annual platform to celebrate achievement, inspire future learners and encourage institutions to maintain high academic standards.
