Bhesraj Pokharel is the CEO/Principal at both Texas International College and Texas College of Management and IT. He is also the General Secretary of C-CON. B.Sc.(CSIT) is the most appealing IT program. He shared his view on the importance of IT education worldwide with College Readers. Excerpts:

Texas international college is renowned for its B.Sc.CSIT program. Could you share with us its impacts on learners? Actually, what type of program is B.Sc.CSIT?

B.Sc. Computer Science and Information Technology (B.Sc.CSIT) is a TU affiliated program. The course comprises 125 plus credit hours, which is also called a five star IT program. The students with ten-plus-two graduation are eligible for studying this program. Students, who can pass the entrance exam conducted by the IST, can get admission in B.Sc. CSIT. The program prepares software developers, software engineers, IT security officers and IT aspirants (techno-savvy). It is completely a research oriented and practical based IT program. Therefore, students who can pass the entrance exam conducted by IST are eligible to pursue B.Sc.CSIT program in the context of Nepal.

There are many IT and computer programs run by various universities across the globe. What is the fundamental difference between other IT and computer programs and B.Sc.CSIT program?

B.Sc.CSIT is completely a research-based IT program since its syllabi imbibe around 75% of computer applications. In this regard, learners will participate in mini, minor and mega projection. They are assigned for internship for six credit hours who visit particular industries and companies to complete their assignments.

In the present context, how is the scope of IT based education?

The present world is fully governed by information technology. The world has been transformed into paperless society, paperless banking and cashless purchases. So, we are going to have all the transactions with the help of technology. In other words, a physical library is being converted into an e-library; megacities are being split into small cities and even agriculture is being converted into e-agro. Therefore, in order to achieve all these developments, we need highly skilled human resources that can show their marvels in the digitized world.

In this changing world, how is the scope of B.Sc.CSIT in Nepal?

Nepal is transforming itself into an IT culture rapidly. All our activities are going to make digital- based. From agriculture to trade, education to job, all are going to be digital-based. In this changing context, B.Sc. CSIT based-human resources are needed in various job landing sectors. They are highly demanded as software engineers, system analysts, network administrators, information security officers, technical support manager, database manager, custom PC developers. The scope of B.Sc. CSIT has been ever increasing in Nepal. None of the sectors can abstain from information and digitized world.

Nepal is being entered into digital system. In your experience, how long will it take for the country to transfigure its customary system into the digital one?

The government and institutions in Nepal are trying their best to transform the customary education system into a digitized system. In other words, the government has started smart national identity card that makes the country and its administration go paperless. In my view, Nepal will completely be transformed into the digital world within next 20 years. If we see the history of many countries, they have spent a significant number years to gain opulence. For an instance, the USA has 200 years of history and Singapore has 35 years of history for transforming their customary system into the digital world; Nepal will completely be digital within twenty years.

What challenges have you faced while achieving a success in IT world?

There is a great challenge to bring theoretical knowledge and practical skill in balance. We should work hard in order to produce skilled human resources by imparting globally standardized quality education by analyzing demands of the global market. B.Sc. CSIT students should be provided with practical education to enable them to work in the real field.

Cybercrime is being increased due to the development of IT. What are the ways of its proper solution?

To control cybercrime, we need IT based highly technical human resources. For example, if anyone develops viruses, our experts should be able to develop antivirus software so that it can be resisted and such wicked people get discouraged. Similarly, cybercrime can be controlled by developing advanced devices and software.

In your opinion, why should Nepali students study B.Sc. CSIT in Nepal?

At present, private colleges in Nepal are able to impart globally acclaimed education at affordable fee structure. So, we should study in Nepal for social integrity, harmony and utilization of country’s available natural resources.

How do you acknowledge the achievement of Texas International College?

What suggestions would you like to give ten-plus-two graduates?
