Central Engineering Campus— affiliated to CTEVT— is one of the pioneer centers for imparting engineering education in Nepal. Within short span of time since its inception, it has gained national and international reputation for academic excellence in teaching and research. The campus offers courses of Diploma in Engineering (Civil & Electrical) and TSLC in Engineering (Civil & Electrical).

Er. Krishna Adhikari is the Principal at Central Engineering Campus. Er. Adhikari shared his view on engineering education that has made impacts on college hopefuls. Excerpts:

Why do you think that students should choose technical education after their SEE graduation?

In Nepal, a range of course choices is available for SEE graduates. Among them, technical education is most important in terms of its multi-disciplinary aspects of hands-on education. Following a qualification of technical education, students should not dilly-dally in search of employment. It is the education that equips the learners with knowledge and skills. We can assume how a technical person earns money with an instance: if we have a simple problem of wiring or electricity, we are compelled to call an electrician and pay him as per his demand, which indicates the value of technical education. I therefore request SEE graduates to pursue technical education after the SEE if they want to be independent and entrepreneurs.

What career opportunities do you see in engineering education (technical education) in Nepal?

Central Engineering Campus is running three-year programs of Diploma in Civil Engineering and Diploma in Electrical Engineering, and 18-month courses (Sub-Overseer)-TSLC in Civil Engineering and TSLC in Electrical Engineering.

Our country is in urgent need of technical human resources in order to achieve a national priority of reconstruction, building, etc. We are in a need of trained engineers/architects. A sub-engineer can work in various sectors, such as consulting, project management, structure, transport, geo-technical field, water supply, sanitary, hydropower, etc. They can be employed by government agencies, construction firms, power generating authorities, property developers or mining factories.

An architect has a wide range of choices of career options like private and government agencies, planning and conservation projects, housing and real estate, interior design, commercial, institutional and industrial establishments.

Studying electrical engineering will lead you to potential careers in power industry, manufacturing, mining and bioengineering. Career opportunities are also found in the telecommunication industry, mining and transport sector, computer industries.

Why should one choose Central Engineering Campus for engineering education?

We are a strong family that comprises highly qualified faculty, dedicated staff, laborious students, caring guardians and well-wishers. We continue empowering our students through intensive professional training programs in addition to the syllabi prescribed by CTEVT. In addition, we have been successful in leveraging our national linkages and projects for the benefit of students, teachers and staff. Such a national and international exposure has allowed us to better prepare our students to cope with the challenges in today’s competitive job markets.

Besides all these attributes, the campus arranges guest lectures, talk programs and seminars conducted by professors and experts of the relevant vocations to ensure our students’ innovations with structures are in perfect blend with wisdom students gain. In this regards, the students inculcate practical knowledge and synchronize themselves with theories, frequent field visits and department study tours. In addition to the regular courses in the semester curricula, students are trained for software that is related to civil engineering.

Central Engineering Campus has many distinguished scholars in its faculty honored by their peers for important contributions and excellent performance in the field they study. Interaction with these experienced, motivated and hard-working educators offer students the best possible foundation to execute their capability, skills and academics in a world where ideas and technology blend inextricably.
