Balaju School of Engineering and Technology

Balaju School of Engineering and Technology is the pioneer technical institute established in collaboration with Nepal government and Swiss Government in 1962 AD (2018 BS). It was established to fulfill the need of medium level technical human resources for the country. At the beginning, it had started a program, titled Mechanical Technician with 20 students. Currently, it is operating T-SLC programs: Electrical sub-overseer, Mechanical sub-overseer and Sanitation sub-overseer and Diploma Programs: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Ophthalmic Science affiliated to CTEVT. The institute has so far managed to graduate as many as 800 students.

Nirmal Prasad Neupane, the Campus Chief at Balaju School of Engineering & Technology, is committed to providing professional education focusing on creativity and innovations. Excerpts:

What are the distinct features of Balaju School of Engineering and Technology?

Balaju School of Engineering and Technology has its distinct identity for its quality and practical-based education. The institute produces qualified and skilled medium level human resources required for the country. It focuses on quality of education rather than quantity of students. We have managed 80% practical classes out of total course in TSLC programs and high emphasis is given on practical class in diploma level, too. The teachers are qualified, dedicated and experienced. It has spacious and modern buildings with well-equipped laboratory, library and all requisite infrastructures. The products have high demand in the global market due to their high skill and efficiency. Our products are not only employed by manufacturing industries, hydro and road construction but also by many other institutions. Similarly, a large number of our graduates are entrepreneurs.

Balaju School of Engineering and Technology was established before the establishment of CTEVT for technical and vocational education. Subsequently, the CTEVT was established with the same objective. What convenience have you realized after the establishment of CTEVT in operating your institution?

The CTEVT has proved itself to be the corner stone for producing medium level technical human resources through its affiliate colleges. So, their contributions to the development of the country are incredible. I have also worked for 27 years in the CTEVT, and I’ve learnt its relevance in the transformation of society and nation. In fact, the CTEVT provides technical education to around sixty thousand youths annually. It can be blissful for bringing the slogan of the government “Prosperous Nepal, Blissful Nepali” into manifestation. CTEVT has been playing a significant role in introducing modern technologies to the country in order to train the youth. So, we’ve realized the comfort and easiness in our path after establishing CTEVT with the same purpose.

You have a long experience working at CTEVT and at Balaju School of Engineering and Technology. What things, do you think, should be improved by CTEVT for its better performance?

In fact, CTEVT is a national autonomous apex body of Technical and Vocational Education established in 2045 BS. It is fully committed for the production of technical and skillful human resources required for the nation. It also provides a series of short-term training to make people self-employed. Similarly, it’s another important task is policy formulation, quality control, preparation of competency based curriculum, developing standards of skill in various occupations and testing the skills of people, conducts various research studies and training need assessment etc. So, its role is found significant in managing, directing and controlling all technical and vocational institutes as well as training center under its affiliation. Hence, the leading persons should be visionary with strong leadership capacity. The curriculum should be changed as the change of time and demand of the country. Similarly, the examination system should be updated and revised to produce quality human resource. The leadership should have the efficiency of quality building and entering the modern technology developing in any corner of the world.

What suggestions would you like to give SEE graduates?

Balaju School of Engineering and Technology has been established with an objective of imparting technical education as well as short term training to the youth for making them self-dependent and entrepreneurs. So, I suggest SEE graduates to receive technical education to be self-employed after short duration of training and education.
